Vacamatic Transmission and Overdrive

From the 1941–1948 Chrysler Shop Manual

Explains the Vacamatic, which has two manual ranges, an automatic vacuum-powered upshift within each range, a free wheeling unit in the countershaft gear and four forward speeds. Power circuit diagrams show each gear. Also covered are the electrical controls (governor, kickdown switch, ignition interrupter and solenoid), overhaul and trouble diagnosis. The overdrive pages, for the Vacamatic overdrive cars, cover sun gear and step-down pawl operation, overhaul, solenoid contact points, control cable and throttle switch adjustment, and the emergency low gear lockout.
