Hydraulically Operated Transmission

From the 1941–1948 Chrysler Shop Manual

Covers the four-speed hydraulically operated transmission of the C-38, C-39 and C-40. Shifts are made by oil pressure acting on a direct speed rail piston, with third-to-fourth at about 12 mph and first-to-second at about 6 mph. Pages cover operation, removal and overhaul with aligning studs C-730 and arbor C-716, and lubrication with 10-W oil. A diagnosis guide gives electrical tests of the kickdown relay, governor, solenoid and interrupter circuit, followed by hydraulic pressure and valve tests and a summary of upshift and downshift failures.
