Rear Axle

From the 1941–1948 Chrysler Shop Manual

Covers two rear axles: the cage-type differential on the C-28, C-30, C-34, C-36, C-38 and C-39, and the barrel-type unit on the Crown Imperial C-33, C-37 and C-40. Procedures cover axle shaft and bearing removal with pullers C-675 and C-499, the differential carrier, and differential bearing adjustment with ring gear backlash of .006 to .010 inch. Also covered are drive pinion bearing preload, gear tooth contact patterns, axle shaft end play shims, pinion oil seal replacement on the car and diagnosis of axle noise.
