Positraction Rear Axle

From the 1956–1960 Chevrolet Corvette Chassis Service Operations: Engines and RPO Equipment

How the Positraction differential works and how to service it. It covers the 3.70, 4.11 and 4.56 ratios and the two types used: 1957 to early 1960 units, later converted with a Belleville plate, and later 1960 units. Complaint diagnosis explains poor drive with one wheel slipping, chatter caused by the wrong lubricant, and a backlash check. The section then gives removal, the pinion mate shaft V-notch clearance check, disassembly, four-stack and five-stack clutch plate assembly, installation, and an optional clutch stack arrangement for maximum traction.
