This is the 1953 Buick Owner's Guide, third edition (publication BPS 0.41), issued by Buick Motor Division of General Motors in Flint, Michigan, in Buick's Golden Anniversary year. It covers the Special Series 40, Super Series 50 and Roadmaster Series 70, including the Riviera hardtops, convertible coupes, Estate Wagons and the Skylark Sport Convertible.
The guide explains keys and locks, the automatic starting system, break-in, lights, vacuum wipers, heater, defroster and ventilation, and the Twin Turbine Dynaflow Drive selector positions, including pushing the car to start. It describes the Sonomatic and Selectronic radios, Hydro-Lectric seats and windows, the power convertible top, Estate Wagon wood care, tire inflation and rotation, engine and serial number locations, the electric clock, lamp bulbs and fuses. A specifications page lists bore, stroke, compression ratios and horsepower for the 263 cu. in. straight eight and the 322 cu. in. V-8, with firing orders, capacities and tune-up settings. The general maintenance section gives oil grades and lubrication intervals, and a final table lists models, wheelbases and overall lengths. Owners and restorers can use it to check original controls and service data.
