Engine
From the 1938 Chevrolet Passenger Car and Truck Service Information
Engine changes for 1938, which otherwise matches the 1937 unit: camshaft bearings with a 70-degree oil groove in place of grooved journals, a spring-loaded leather front cover seal (J-995 replacer, J-966 centering gauge), tappet springs dropped in favor of stronger valve springs, shorter exhaust valve guides, a redesigned exhaust valve, a distributor oil-arresting groove, a stronger thermostat, a lighter flywheel and AC-46 spark plugs at .040 inch gap.
