Hydra-Matic Manuals

Hydra-Matic is the four-speed automatic transmission developed by General Motors and used by several makes. The library’s manuals for it cover 1940 to 1961 and include parts catalogs, on-the-car adjustment manuals, overhaul and unit repair manuals, shop manual sections, training booklets and dealer service bulletins. They apply to Cadillac, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, Lincoln, Nash, Hudson, Kaiser, Willys and GM trucks.

Manuals here include the 1940–1955 GM Automatic Transmission Parts Catalog A-3010 and the 1940–1956 Hydra-Matic Parts Catalog. The 1946–1955 On-the-Car Adjustment Service Manual and the 1956–1957 Controlled Coupling Hydra-Matic Service Manual give procedures for mechanics. The 1949–1950 Lincoln manual, the 1954 Lincoln diagnosis booklet and the Pontiac Hydra-Matic manuals for 1957, 1960 and 1961 help restorers rebuilding specific units.
