6.2L Diesel

From the 1990 GMC Light Duty Truck Service Manual (R/V, P, G)

On-vehicle service for the 6.2L diesel V8, which uses roller hydraulic lifters, shaft-mounted rocker arms and a chain-driven camshaft. The lubrication description traces oil from a pump driven by the vacuum pump shaft or a drive gear, through the oil cooler in the radiator, to the full-flow filter. Procedures cover intake and exhaust manifolds, rocker arms, shafts and pushrods, lifters, valve stem seals and springs, cylinder heads, oil pump drive, damper and front seal, front cover, timing chain and sprockets, camshaft, dipstick tube, separate oil pan and pump procedures for R/V and G models, rear main seal, pistons, bearings, crankshaft, mountings, engine and flywheel replacement.
