Hydraulic Brakes

From the 1970 Chevrolet Heavy Duty Truck Shop Manual, Series 70–90

Vacuum-assisted hydraulic brakes, used on H, J and T-70 models when specified on the sales order. The booster is a "one to one" system with a check valve that holds vacuum for at least one assisted stop after vacuum loss. After the brake system maintenance checklist, it covers brake shoe adjustment, bleeding and flushing, single, double-barrel and split-system (double reservoir) master cylinder disassembly and assembly, wheel cylinders, and the FR-3 and FR-3A rear brakes with automatic star-wheel adjusters: shoe removal, cleaning and inspection, and brake drums. Power cylinders and power brake system tests are also covered.
