Air Brakes
From the 1970 Chevrolet Heavy Duty Truck Shop Manual, Series 70–90
Full air brakes, standard on most models covered and optional on H, J and T-70. A schematic of a typical system shows the compressor, governor, air tanks, application, relay, quick release, double check and two-way valves, low-air buzzer switch and moisture ejector. The section covers two brake types: cam-type brakes with air chambers and slack adjusters, and Stopmaster wedge brakes with two chambers per wheel. It gives maintenance tests and inspection for each control unit, trailer brake hand control and tractor protection (breakaway) valves, Bendix-Westinghouse and Midland-Ross emergency control valves, and Stopmaster wedge, plunger and seal service with an installing tool.
