Hydra-Matic Drive
From the 1957 Cadillac Shop Manual
The longest section: the controlled-coupling Hydra-Matic, standard on all 1957 Cadillacs, in its C, CE (Eldorado dual-carburetor engines) and CA (75 and 86 series) versions and how they differ. A detailed theory of operation traces the fluid coupling, front, rear and reverse units, sprag clutches and neutral clutch through each range, followed by oil pressures, adjustments such as accelerator pedal height, removal, and unit disassembly and assembly including the accumulator.
