Electric Starting and Lighting Systems
From the Chalmers Light Six Model 26 Instruction Book
The Chalmers starting system uses a single motor-generator driven by chain and shaft, with no automatic cutout. It works as a starter and then as a generator once the engine passes about 600 rpm, which makes the engine non-stallable. The chapter covers the heavy-duty battery and hydrometer, the dash switch position for sustained speeds over 30 mph, and generator lubrication. It ends with a full wiring diagram, headlight focusing, the electric horn, the inspection-lamp socket and the dash light.
