350 Automatic Transmission

From the 1979 Chevrolet Passenger Car and Light Truck Unit Repair Manual

Unit repair of the 1979 350 automatic transmission, opening with a sectioned view. Disassembly starts with converter inspection and the converter end clearance check, then removes the extension, speedometer driven gear, oil pan and screen, valve body and linkage, oil pump and internal case components. Each sub-assembly gets disassembly, inspection and reassembly: valve body, oil pump, direct clutch with intermediate overrun roller clutch, forward clutch, sun gear and drive shell, low and reverse roller clutch support and governor. Bushing replacement covers nine bushings, and reassembly ends with the intermediate servo, governor, vacuum modulator and intermediate clutch accumulator.
