Description and Operation
From the 1948–1950 Buick Dynaflow Transmission Shop Manual
How Dynaflow Drive works. The section starts with the manual control mechanism and the P, N, D, L and R ranges, including rocking the car and pushing it to start the engine. It then describes the principal parts of the transmission and explains the torque converter's primary and secondary pumps, turbine and primary and secondary stators with their free-wheel clutches. Further paragraphs cover the planetary gears and direct drive clutch, and the hydraulic control system with its front and rear oil pumps, pressure regulator, accumulators, valve and servo bodies, illustrated with oil circuit diagrams.
