Rear Axle
From the 1946 Buick Shop Manual Supplement
Changes to the 1946 Series 40-50-70 rear axle: a heavier ring and pinion gear set and differential case, a longer pinion bearing lock sleeve and the new Pinion Bearing Spacer J-1192B. A cutaway shows each change from 1942, and pinion setting tables give nominal micrometer readings for 1940–1946 models with Pinion Setting Gauges J-681A and J-2197, whose micrometer markings read in opposite directions.
