Radiator and Surge Tank

From the 1971 Chevrolet Heavy Duty Truck Shop Manual Supplement, Series 70–90

The 1971 exceptions to section 13 of ST135-70, mostly for HC, JC, HH and JH90 and FC and DC90 models with the Cummins NTC 335 engine. These have a shutterstat in the radiator lower tank, a foot-mounted lower radiator mounting and stabilizer rods insulated at the frame end; adjustment of the rods for all models is described. Radiator core removal and installation are given for FC and DC90 tilt cabs and for fiberglass and sheet metal hood models, followed by the new radiator cap and filler neck safety detent, the shutter air cylinder with built-in over-travel, and cooling system notes and precautions.
