Checking carburetor performance and road testing
From the 1949–1951 Ford of Canada Fuel System Master Repair Manual
Preliminary checks to make before blaming the carburetor: ignition, engine compression with an altitude chart, and fuel pump pressure. The on-car procedure then covers the automatic choke, idle speed and mixture, the dashpot on automatic transmission cars, fuel level with gauge X-9550E, the accelerator pump and ball check, main body air leaks and the power valve vacuum piston, ending with a road test and mileage tester check.
