How disc brakes stop a car and why most cars use discs in front and drums at the rear. It describes the proportioning, residual check and metering valves of a combination system, then the caliper, shoes, disc, pistons and seals. Fixed caliper designs from Bendix, Budd, Delco-Moraine and Kelsey-Hayes are compared, followed by floating caliper brakes and the two-piston Ford truck caliper made by Dayton.
