This is Holley Carburetor Company's service manual for the Model 4000 four-barrel downdraft carburetor, Form No. C-228, dated February 1955 and issued by the Publications Department in Van Dyke, Michigan. According to the application section, the Model 4000 was used on all 1955 Lincoln and Mercury passenger cars and on Ford Thunderbird sport cars and police cars. A note also describes the revised idle and main metering systems of later production units.

The manual explains the main body, air horn and throttle body subassemblies, then each system: fuel inlet, main metering, idle, power enrichment (economizer), vacuum-operated secondary throttles, accelerating pump, manifold-mounted automatic choke, the vacuum passages for the Holley pressure distributor and spark control valve, and the dashpot. The overhaul section lists Holley and Snap-On special tools and Master Repair Kit parts, with step-by-step disassembly, cleaning, inspection and reassembly, plus float level, idle, choke, dashpot and bowl vent selector adjustments. It ends with service hints and a trouble shooting chart. One page of the chart appears to be missing from this scan. Restorers and mechanics rebuilding a 1955 Lincoln, Mercury or Thunderbird four-barrel will find it useful.
