Buick's 1946 Shop Manual (BPS 1.28) is a supplement to the 1942 Shop Manual for the postwar Special Series 40, Super Series 50 and Roadmaster Series 70. It lists only the items that changed from 1942, so many sections are a page or two long and refer back to the 1942 book. It follows the 1942 section numbering, from general information and body through engine, electrical and radio, accessories, tightening specifications and lubrication, and ends with an index. The Hydro-Lectric power system on the convertible coupes is covered in a separate manual, BPS 1.29.

A table lists the 1946 models by series with wheelbase (Special 121 in., Super 124 in., Roadmaster 129 in.) and license weights, followed by starting car serial numbers for the Flint, Southgate and Linden plants and starting engine serial numbers. It also reproduces the New Car, 1,000 and 2,000 Mile Inspection and Adjustment form, explains the Product Report form, describes General Motors Institute dealer training programs and prints the manufacturer's warranty.
