This is United Delco Bulletin 9D-4, the June 1964 service manual for the Delco Rochester Model 4G and Model 4GC carburetors, published by General Motors Corporation and priced at 25 cents. It replaces Bulletin 9D-9. The 4G is a 4-bore downdraft carburetor with a manual choke; the 4GC has an automatic choke. Some 4G units carry a vacuum-controlled governor for heavy duty trucks.
The book explains the primary and secondary sides and the six operating systems: float, idle, main metering, power, pump and choke. It covers float assist springs, the idle air by-pass system and idle compensator, the power piston and auxiliary valves, and the conventional, split linkage and hot water automatic chokes. Step-by-step procedures cover air horn, float bowl, throttle body and governor disassembly, cleaning, inspection of parts, and assembly, with figures and a typical exploded view with a parts list. It is useful to restorers and mechanics rebuilding a 4-barrel Rochester.
