The 1949 Ford Mechanic's Handbook (Form No. 3755, dated June 10, 1948) was issued by the Ford Motor Company Service Department ahead of the full 1949 shop manual. It gives dealers, independent garage mechanics and service station staff preliminary technical information on the new 1949 Ford passenger cars, the Model 8BA with the 239.4 cu in, 100 hp V-8 and the Model 8HA with the 226 cu in, 95 hp Six.

The handbook concentrates on what changed for 1949: hood, deck lid and door striker alignment, windshield glass removal from the outside, the vacuum-advance distributor and ignition timing, full-flow cooling, carburetor idle and accelerating pump adjustment, battery, generator and regulator limits, the starting system and vacuum wipers. Chassis pages cover the coil-spring independent front suspension with caster, camber and toe-in settings, the new Hotchkiss-drive rear springs, the hypoid rear axle, clutch, transmission removal, Duo-Servo hydraulic brakes, headlight aiming, the ventilating system and grille removal. It ends with a lubrication chart, a 24-step engine tune-up procedure and condensed specifications. Owners, restorers and mechanics working on 1949 Fords will find it a compact reference.
