Fisher Body Service News Vol. 9 No. 18 (Fisher No. 18, F.B.S. 9-8-50) was issued by the Fisher Body Division of General Motors on September 8, 1950. This issue is for Chevrolet dealers only and covers one job: headlining removal and installation on the 1950 Chevrolet Bel Air, Fisher Body Style 37.
The bulletin explains how the Bel Air headlining is built: cloth trim tacked at the windshield header, side roof rails, rear quarters and back window, rear listing wires in sewn pockets, and exposed, adjustable channel-type roof bows that slide onto foundation strips. A numbered 13-step removal covers the lower chrome and wide painted upper moldings, the rear quarter corner lamps, the tacks, the rear support wires with rubber thimbles and the roof bow screws. An 8-step installation covers stay tacking along the header, test-fitting the upper header molding to check fullness, working out wrinkles and draws, and setting roof bow tension. Drawings with lettered callouts show each step. Restorers and trim shops refitting a Bel Air headliner will find the order of work here.
