Chevrolet Motor Division of General Motors issued this Advance Service Information booklet to give dealer service personnel early instructions on the 1947 Chevrolet light and heavy duty trucks, from 1/2-ton models through 2-ton and Cab-Over-Engine trucks. It works alongside the 1942 Shop Manual, which it cites for wheel-cylinder bleeding.
The largest sections cover the Hydrovac vacuum power brake (operation, bleeding, removal, overhaul of the power cylinder, control valve and hydraulic cylinder), the new full-floating hypoid rear axle for 3/4- and 1-ton trucks (axle ratios and serial prefixes, wheel bearings, pinion and differential overhaul, backlash and thrust pad settings), and the vacuum-shift two-speed rear axle for 2-ton heavy duty trucks (shift mechanism, double reduction shaft, pinion shim tables, tooth contact adjustment). A miscellaneous section describes the frame-mounted clutch and brake pedals, steering gear ratios, the Safety-Couple door lock, X-type window regulator, panel body rear doors, lighting switch and fuse box, the truck wiring diagram and the "Diamond" cab mounting. Exploded views and torque figures make it useful to restorers and mechanics working on 1947 Chevrolet trucks.
