This 1971 supplement gives disassembly and assembly procedures for major components peculiar to Chevrolet Series 40–60 medium-duty trucks. It supplements the 1971 Passenger Car and Series 10–30 Truck Chassis Overhaul Manual, while maintenance, adjustments and removal and installation are in the 1971 Series 40–60 Truck Chassis Service Manual. Six sections cover Eaton rear axle differential carriers, Hydrovac power brake cylinders and air compressor, the Holley 4150G carburetor, Delcotron generators, heavy-duty clutches and five-speed and auxiliary transmissions, and steering gears and power steering, followed by specifications for each.

Rear Axle Differential Carrier

Overhaul of Eaton differential carriers: 11,000 through 17,000 lb. capacity single-speed and 15,000 and 17,000 lb. two-speed units, the differential case and drive pinion for 18,500 and 23,000 lb. single- and two-speed axles, and tandem rear axles with the power divider. Gear tooth contact patterns (toe, heel, face and flank) guide pinion and ring gear adjustment, and special tools close the section.
